Out of 50 wards of HMC, conservancy work is being done in most of these areas of wards 1 - 44 daily except Sundays and holidays. The Working time of conservancy department starts from 5.00 A.M to 11.00 A.M.The accumulated sweeping materials along with silt taken out from drains and garbage collected from houses are stacked in specified vats. Seven contractors have been engaged to remove the garbage from the vats and to dump them at the H.M.C Dumping Ground situated at Belgachia; and one Carcass contractor has been engaged for removal of decomposed bodies of animals from streets and roads.

The Conservancy Department is involved with the job of Septic Tank Clearance. For using Cesspool, the user has to pay charge of Rs 400 and for doing it manually the charge is Rs.350. For the first one the distance between main road and septic chamber should be within 150 Ft and for the second one the distance should be more than 150 Ft.

VISION AND OBJECTIVES

H.M.C is trying to get lands for a new dumping ground, as the present dumping ground has no further capacity to retain garbage. H.M.C is also exploring alternative ways for disposal of solid waste. If H.M.C gets land for this purpose then organic/Inorganic materials will have to be collected separately from the source to implement the said process. H.M.C also started converting open vats to covered vats and also thinking to replace open vats by metal-containers.

 FOR THROWING OF GARBAGE ON THE STREET / BYLANES /DRAINS etc.

 Rs 25/- (For Individual for each and every offence)
 
 Rs 300/-(For Commercial Establishment for each and  Every offence).

 
       TIME & PLACE OF DUMPING GARBAGE

  Garbage is dumped every day by 8 'o' clock and is removed within 9 'o' clock on the same day by contractors recruited by H.M.C. from the VATS of the following roads:

 (a) G.T Road
 (b) Dr.Abani Dutta Road
 (c) Dobson Road
 (d) Panchanantala Road
 (e) Netaji Subhas Road
 (f) Rishi Bankim Chandra Road
 (g) Deshopran Sashmal Road
        
Garbage on the vats situated on other Roads / Lanes to be dumped within 10 A.M and to be removed by the contractors within 12 noon. 

        INFORMATION ABOUT GARBAGE DISPOSAL IN ADDED AREAS

 Garbage is removed on that day from those vats where the garbage is dumped by  the Conservany Workers.

Procedure for lodging grievances & contact person:

Mostly grievances comes verbally or in writing; for which a complaint register is being kept in each sector office.

In case anybody wants to lodge complaint in the Head Office, he/she may communicate over phone and in case of written complaint it may be submitted in the Central Receiving Section at Head Office.
